Maximus is a strong Roman general, cherished by individuals and the maturing Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Before his demise, the Emperor picks Maximus to be his successor over his own child, Commodus, and a battle for control leaves Maximus and his family sentenced to death. The strong general can’t save his family, and his deficiency of will permits him to get caught and placed into the Gladiator games until he bites the dust.
