In this obscurely heartfelt phantom story, a lady (Academy Award Winner Mira Sorvino) goes to a detached lodge where she ends up followed by a spirit (Shane West, “A Walk To Remember”) who has come to possess her space as his own. With the surprising appearance of the lady’s sweetheart (Golden Globe candidate Justin Kirk, “Weeds”), the dull soul’s eerie develops more fanatical. Before long the lady starts to display a strangely unreasonable way of behaving as the dainty line between mental soundness and ownership starts to disentangle. A staggering first time at the helm from Tom Provost, “The Presence” is grounded in fantastic exhibitions, wonderful cinematography, a lavish melodic score, and a Hitchcockian style that investigates the possibility of unadulterated true to life narrating.
